I'd love to use a digital signature, but too few of my "audience" are tech-aware enough to deal with that. I simply need to write my name on letters and other documents that I create or review. I open the PDF with GIMP, add the signature layer, resize as needed, and export as a PDF that is all raster. If you need to keep the PDF in a "vector" format where the text is selectable, I suggest you go with a digital signature:
